1911-S<$5> MS65 NGC. Although produced in comparatively large numbers within the series of Indian half eagles, the 1911-S is scarce to rare at all levels of Uncirculated preservation. In MS63 and better grades the '11-S is equally as elusive as such lower mintage S-mint five Indians as the 1909-S and 1910-S. Despite the verity of these statements, the 1911-S Indian half eagle continues to be one of several underappreciated condition rarities within in a series that has more challenging issues than common issues. On this eye appealing Gem representative, the luster quality is extraordinary for this often substandard issue and the strike is equally impressive. The design elements are crisply detailed and mostly smooth, with a uniform reddish patina that adds to the coin's visual presence. Only the awe-inspiring Pittman specimen, a PCGS certified MS66, appears to be finer than the presently offered Gem. Census: 4 in 65, none are finer (5/06).
