1911-S $5 MS64 PCGS. The 1911-S five dollar, despite the rather fairly generous mintage of 1.416 million pieces, is still rather scarce in Mint State condition, especially in MS63 and above, where PCGS and NGC have seen fewer than 200 coins. The typical specimen is somewhat weak on the Indian's headdress, and the luster is not as good as on the earlier San Francisco issues.
The current near-Gem exhibits pleasing bright luster and yellow-gold color. The design features are sharply impressed, illustrating excellent definition in the hair at the Indian's temple, and on most of the headdress and eagle's feathers. Even the mintmark, that is often weak on this issue, is fairly well defined on the present example. A couple of wispy marks are noted in the raised, exposed fields, but this piece reveals fewer marks than what might be expected for the grade designation. Population: 20 in 64, 8 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
