1911-S<$20> MS65 PCGS. Difficult as it is to believe today, Saint-Gaudens double eagles were for many years regarded strictly as bullion. Even numismatists of the fifties and sixties primarily regarded the denomination as a means to legally own gold. While many thousands of Uncirculated 1911-S Twenties have survived Roosevelt's gold recall, most suffered from decades of improper storage in the vaults of foreign banks. The somewhat pebbly-like surfaces of this Gem exude glowing luster and apricot-gold patina tinged with faint lime-green. All of the design features are well brought up. A small mark on Liberty's midsection is mentioned for accuracy, as are a few more on the eagle's left wing. PCGS has graded 17 pieces finer (11/05).
