1911-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. With a relatively low mintage
1911-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. Countless collectors pursue the Lincoln cent as their first series because of its high visibility, availability, and relative affordability. Even after getting their feet wet in numismatics, many collectors remain fervent Lincoln seekers. Due to the huge collector base for the Lincoln cent, demand is always high, and bidding is fierce for a Premium Gem such as the piece offered here. There are 18 PCGS Set Registries for Lincoln cents alone, with a total of 1,287 sets registered! This does not even account for the innumerable collectors who do not participate in the Set Registry.
Many of the early Lincoln cents are challenging in Gem or better. In 1911, the San Francisco Mint struck more than 4 million Lincoln cents for circulation. Apparently, most of these coins spent a good deal of time in commerce. This is an especially well-preserved example that has warm red color over each side and sharply struck devices. The 1911-S is an elusive issue even in finer circulated grades, but it is a premier condition rarity at the Gem Red level of preservation, and even more so at the level of Premium Gem Red. PCGS has graded a total of 11 MS66 Red 1911-S cents and none in either MS66 Brown or MS66 Red and Brown. Due to the rarity of the '11-S in MS66, one can expect several high-grade Lincoln specialists to compete for this exquisite specimen.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
