<B>1911 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Cabinet Photograph, Type 1.</B></I> We are only stating well-established fact when we point to the incredible scarcity of team photographs dating to the Dead Ball era of Major League Baseball, and here we find one of the more appealing specimens from that slim supply. The 6x8" image area captures the third place Bucs with magnificent clarity, providing a rare glimpse at the team posed for a Spring 1911 portrait, as the vintage notation on the mount below states. Several of the players are likewise identified in blue ink block lettering, most notably a thirty-seven year old shortstop named Wagner and fellow Hall of Famers Fred Clarke and Bill McKechnie (though both names are misspelled here). A chipped upper left corner of the mount (which extends the final dimensions of this piece to 8x10") represents the only condition flaw. Otherwise this piece seems to have been treated for the past nine and a half decades with the care and reverence it deserves.
