1911: Irish National Guard meeting room plaque
hand painted metal
13 by 11cm., 5 by 4.5in.

A scarce Irish National Guard plaque in the form of a shield, painted red with "I.N.G." lettering and edges applied in gold coloured paint. The Irish National Guard was founded in 1911 as a youth organisation for the working class by Augustine Finlay. The I.N.G. later merged with the Irish Citizen Army and a number of its members fought with the latter group during the 1916 Rising.
