1911-D $5 MS60 NGC. The 1911-D Indian Half Eagle is the premier condition rarity among all 20th century United States gold issues. Precious few of the 72,500 coins produced are extant in Mint State, and the certified population dwindles rapidly the closer one comes to the Gem threshold. The Denver Mint used only one pair of dies to produce this issue, and survivors are virtually all well struck with a sharp D mintmark. This is an attractively bold example with rich honey-gold coloration. There are, of course, scattered bagmarks on both sides, but the only singularly mentionable distraction is a moderate planchet flaw (as struck) in the reverse field above the eagle's head. Powerfully impressed over the mintmark, and a significant bidding opportunity for the collector who specializes in this conditionally challenging gold series. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
