<B>1911-D $2 1/2 Weak D AU58 NGC.</B></I> "A small number of examples are known with a very weak D mintmark, but most of these are lightly circulated." This description of the 1911-D Weak D quarter eagles, which appears in Garrett and Guth (2006), fits the present piece perfectly. The mintmark is weak yet discernible, and the well struck devices and lustrous lemon-gold fields show a measure of friction.
