1911-D $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. Seven different ''11-D quarte
1911-D $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. Eight different '11-D quarter eagles are offered in this sale, with this single Gem example the finest of the lot. It is a remarkable piece with full design elements on both sides and an extraordinarily bold mintmark. As illustrated by this and most of our other sales, examples of this issue are not difficult to locate in lower grades. Many circulated and low-level Mint State examples still exist, while an additional quantity of weak or missing mintmark coins also are known. Those coins are only identified as '11-D quarter eagles by other die characteristics that are also useful for authentication. All genuine specimens have a high wire rim on the obverse from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock, present on this example although it is not actually visible due to the construction of the PCGS holder. On the reverse, a tiny vertical die line is present on all genuine pieces. It is located in the tiny recessed space between the arrow points and the mintmark. Although the wire rim on the obverse can be seen without magnification, this tiny reverse die line can only be seen with a 10x or stronger magnifier, or extremely good eye sight.
This Gem example, which is approaching the finest quality ever certified by PCGS, has extremely sharp obverse and reverse design elements and frosty yellow-gold luster. Both sides also have subliminal pink toning. The surfaces are pristine and nearly free of marks. Population: 14 in 65, 4 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
