1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Paul Green, in a September 17, 1996 Numismatic News article entitled "Don't Overlook Indian Head Quarter Eagles," writes of the key date 1911-D: "It has not become any more common over the years. It always has, and always will be the key date in the Indian Head quarter eagle set. Its prices routinely run four or five times higher than the prices of common dates. None question that it is the key date to the set and worth the price."
The Select example offered in this lot displays a blend of peach and reddish-gold patina that rests on bright luster. A well executed strike leaves its mark on the design elements that are quite well defined; only the eagle's shoulder exhibits some softness, and it is quite minor. Magnification reveals a few minute marks, but these do not significantly detract from the overall appeal of this pleasing example.

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
