1911-D<$2 1/2> MS63 PCGS. The importance of this issue is a direct result of its low mintage, the lowest of the entire series. Just 55,680 of these were coined. The next lowest mintage Indian Quarter Eagle, the 1914, had a mintage over four times the '11-D production total. This issue was the first quarter eagle struck at the Denver Mint, and one of only three dates of the denomination produced at that facility. In 1911, the double eagle was the predominant coin struck in Denver, with all of the lower denomination gold coins taking a back seat. This specimen has one of the sharpest strikes we have seen on an example of this scarce and popular key-date issue. Indeed, the mintmark is bold and complete. The fields on both sides have a few wispy, grade-limiting hairlines. A fully brilliant example, with faint orange color over satiny yellow-gold luster.
