1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 PCGS. Far and away the lowest minta
1911-D<$2 1/2> MS63 PCGS. Far and away the lowest mintage date in the Indian Quarter Eagle series, the 1911-D brings a significant premium in all grades. It is unusual among gold coins in that it is almost instantly identifiable even to the more casual numismatist as a key date; that distinction generally is reserved for copper, silver, and a few legendary rarities. This coin features deep olive-gold color over much of the exposed fields and high points of the devices; the underlying color in the recessed areas is more of an apricot-gold. Luster is of the satin variety, and the surfaces are notably smooth for the grade. The mintmark is distinct. Housed in an older PCGS green label holder.
