1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. David Akers, in his cataloging
1911-D $2 1/2 MS63 NGC. David Akers, in his cataloging of the Dr. Thaine Price Collection, writes of the 1911-D quarter eagle: "Mint State examples are very scarce, if not rare, but can be located with only moderate difficulty as long as one is willing to settle for a specimen in less than Gem condition." The NGC/PCGS census/population data corroborate Akers' contention; the 85 MS65 and finer coins certified by the two services represent a sharp drop from the 600 or so near-Gems seen (3/07).
The Select example in this lot radiates bright luster from brass-gold surfaces, and exhibits a sharp strike, except for the usual softness in the eagle's shoulder feathers. A few light handling marks in the fields limit the grade.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
