1911-D<$2 1/2> MS62 PCGS. The 1911-D Indian quarter eagle was produced in a very limited quantity that totaled just 55,680 coins. The next closest mintage in the entire series was 1914 with 240,000 pieces coined. All other dates had much higher mintages with 1913 serving as the high-water mark with a production of 722,000 coins. Although quite a number of these 1911-D quarter eagles survive, it is important to realize that many were struck with an extremely weak D mintmark, thus those examples with a bold mintmark such as this piece, are even rarer than the mintage figures might suggest. This piece is a lovely Mint State example with sharp design details and brilliant light yellow-gold luster.
