<B>1911-D $2 1/2 MS61 NGC.</B></I> The 1911-D, coming from a mintage of 55,680 pieces, is the key to the Indian Head quarter eagle series. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, in their U.S. gold encyclopedia, say "... few examples were saved at the time of issue. Most of the survivors are in lower Mint State grades... ." Brass-gold surfaces on this MS61 specimen display well struck design elements, save for minor softness in the eagle's shoulder feathers; the D mintmark is strong.
