<B>1911-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC.</B></I> Writing about the 1911-D quarter eagle, Paul Taglione says in his <I>A Reference to United States Federal Gold Coinage</B></I>: "This coin is probably scarce in any grade but all available evidence tends to confirm the thesis that the 1911-D was actively saved within 15 years of issuance. However, most examples were apparently rescued from circulation as the issue is very scarce in strict Mint State quality." This AU58 example retains considerable luster on yellow-gold surfaces, and strong detail is visible on the design elements, except for the eagle's shoulder.
