1911-D $10 MS63 PCGS. Though mintage is far from the sole determinant of rarity in late-date American gold, with just 30,100 pieces struck, the 1911-D ten dollar gold is one of the most challenging Saint-Gaudens issues, and even Select examples are condition rarities. Garrett and Guth (2006) ascribe immense importance to this issue, proclaiming that " a ll Indian Head eagle collections are judged to some degree on the quality of the 1911-D issue."
A touch of haze has settled over the surfaces of this luminous piece, predominantly yellow-gold with a touch of wheat. Liberty's cheek is clean, and at first glance, the piece appears much finer than its Select designation. Only on closer inspection does one identify the wispy, grade-defining abrasion present in the left obverse field. The reverse is rotated approximately 20 degrees counterclockwise. Population: 21 in 63, 15 finer (8/07).

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
