1911-D<$10> MS63 PCGS. The 1911-D Indian Head eagle is an elusive issue with a mintage of just 30,100 pieces, the lowest in the series. Matte-like surfaces and bright, satiny luster guarantee the eye appeal of this conditionally scarce example. The peach and mint-green toning is also highly attractive. A handful of small blemishes are noted on both sides, limiting the grade.
Approximately two hundred '11-D eagles have been certified in Mint State, through the combined efforts of NGC and PCGS (some number of resubmissions is virtually certain), but 145 of those coins are graded below MS63. Select specimens such as this one are offered infrequently at public auction. Housed in a green label PCGS holder. Population: 19 in 63, 15 finer (9/06).
From The Clifton Rodenburg Collection.
