1911-D $10 MS63 PCGS. 1911 was the last year the Mint struck the ten Indian with 46 stars on the edge, as two stars were added in 1912 with the admission of New Mexico and Arizona as states. The 1911-D is a key issue as an eagle, in addition to its status as such both as a quarter eagle and half eagle. In 1911 the Denver Mint produced only 30,100 ten Indians, the lowest figure of the entire series. Combine this with its low survival rate and the 1911-D is an extremely difficult issue to track down in any grade.
The 11-D is especially challenging for collectors of Mint State specimens. PCGS and NGC have graded only 107 and 106 Mint State pieces, respectively. According to the authors of The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one reason for the lack of availability of Mint State examples is that "almost all of the freshly struck coins were dispersed quickly into circulation, with few held back by collectors." This is a rare opportunity to acquire this key and major condition rarity to the ten dollar Indian series. This is an original example of this scarce issue. The surfaces are satiny with mildly variegated orange-gold patina on each side. A few light field marks explain the grade.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
