1911 Albert Spalding Signed Book. After a simpl
1911 Albert Spalding Signed Book. After a simple autograph clipped from a handwritten letter realized over $6,200 in our October 2007 Signature Auction, one smart consignor realized it might be time to part with this gorgeous autographed copy of the early baseball pioneers' America's National Game. Unquestionably a superior piece to the earlier offering, this fine hardcover bears a stunningly Mint black ink fountain pen inscription on a blank opening page, reading, "To my esteemed friend George Burnham with my compliments and Christmas Greetings, A.G. Spalding, Point Loma Calif, Dec 25, 1911." Our consignor was kind enough to point out that the volume is rebound, with a replaced spine, but the work was masterfully rendered and would only be apparent to the most eagle-eyed of collectors. No dust jacket. The front and rear covers are original, with the former sporting a fine early baseball image in gold against its deep blue background. All interior pages remain in fine undamaged condition with the exception of the panoramic fold-out, which does have tape reinforcement of the fold lines. Still one of the most solid examples we've encountered of this important early baseball book, a prize even in its unsigned state. LOA from PSA/DNA.
