1911 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. After two years of experimen
1911 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. After two years of experimenting with the Roman Gold finish, the mint resumed production of matte proof Indian Quarter Eagles in 1911. The original mintage for this issue is 191 pieces, but no more than 75 specimens are believed extant. The most likely explanation for this discrepancy is widespread melting of unsold examples by the Mint. This olive-gold representative is uncommonly smooth for the assigned grade with absolutely no blemishes that are outwardly distracting. Full striking definition is noted throughout. Accuracy compels us to point out an almost invisible graze in the obverse field under the T of LIBERTY. Still, a remarkably well preserved proof Indian Quarter Eagle. Lot:7738
