1911 $10 MS67 PCGS. The appeal of the 1911 is twof
1911<$10> MS67 PCGS. The appeal of the 1911 is twofold: as a type coin, and as an issue that is available with some frequency in high grades. In Gem condition, the 1911 is the third most frequently encountered ten Indian, trailing only the 1926 and 1932. Still, at this level this is rarified atmosphere with fewer than 20 Superb coins certified by the two major services (eight by PCGS and six by NGC, with two in MS68). When encountered, the 1911 is usually an attractive coin and it makes an excellent type piece from the earlier years of this design type.
There is an interesting story about a small hoard of 1911 tens that came on the market in the early 1990s. We think it is a good story to pass along, even if it does not have a direct bearing on this particular coin (that we know of): A Pontiac car dealership in Ulysses, Kansas closed its doors after many years of service to that community. A prospective purchaser was searching through a dusty storeroom of obsolete parts, and discovered an old carburetor box containing 30-40 Mint State 1911 eagles that apparently had been hidden by the original owner who had long since passed away. What the grade distribution of these coins were we cannot say for certain, but speculation would lead one to suspect that if they had lain undisturbed in the old carburetor box for decades, the average grade must have been quite high.
As with most 1911 tens, striking definition is not a problem on this coin with strong definition in all areas. Also, the surfaces have a frosted finish with fine granularity over each side. The only mentionable mark that could be used as a pedigree identifier is a thin diagonal scratch below the L in PLURIBUS. This is another singular opportunity for the advanced collector to purchase one of the finest 1911 tens available.
Indian Eagle Selections from the Dr. Steven L. Duckor Collection.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers.
