1910 World Series Program (Chicago)
1910 World Series Program (Chicago). After Frank "Home Run" Baker's personal copy of this exceedingly scarce program realized a price of $14,340 in our October 2005 Signature Auction, we were very pleased when a consignor contacted us to announce that he had one of his own. To the best of our knowledge, this example represents just the third to be sold by a major auction house in the past seven years, which should give some indication of just how rare they are. While this representation is not without its flaws, these do little to detract from the tremendous visual appeal, and they must be forgiven when considering that only a tiny handful exist in any form. First we must note that the cover, though present and complete, is loose from the stapled binding and shows an expected degree of surface wear and minor staining. And, secondly, the four-page folio at center, which includes the Athletics score sheet, is missing. It is apparent from the pencil-marked Cubs score sheet however that the program was used for Game Five, though the fan apparently relaxed his standards of scoring somewhat after Mordecai Brown gave up five runs in the top of the eighth. All of the interior pages present beautifully almost a century later, with no concerning stains, creases or tears of any kind. A wait for the next example to appear may well be like waiting for another Cubs Championship. We recommend that you bid now instead.
