1910-S $5 MS65 PCGS. An exceptionally elusive Fiv
1910-S<$5> MS65 PCGS. An exceptionally elusive Five Dollar Indian in Gem condition, David Akers estimates that there may be as many as ten MS65 or better pieces known--a number that requires great patience on the part of a collector who wishes to acquire one of these seldom-offered rarities. Current population figures contradict this however, as only six Gems have seen either service.
Easily the most visually arresting feature of this coin is its soft, frosted mint luster. It gently rolls around the surfaces as the coin is tilted beneath a light and shimmers beneath an even layer of coppery-gold and orange patina that covers both sides. Abrasions are so few that they could almost be individually listed. The only ones, however, that might be used for future identification purposes are a small cluster in the left obverse field just left of the Indian's nose. Also fully struck in all areas, and quite unusual as such, as most 1910-S fives are weakly defined. Population: 3 in 65, 1 finer (6/05).
