1910-S $5 MS64 PCGS. Although somewhat more than 300 certification events in Mint State are documented between NGC and PCGS combined, the population of the 1910-S issue at the Gem level thins out drastically. As of this writing there are only six pieces in MS65 at both services combined, a situation that exerts added pressure on high-end near-Gems such as the present coin. This coin's brilliant luster is its chief attribute, bright and gleaming, and seemingly more often found on a Liberty Head coin than on an Indian Head piece. The surfaces are intensely satiny and a light yellow-gold, also atypical for the series. Although examination with a loupe reveals a few trivial contact marks on the reverse, the only mentionable abrasion is a small nick in the left obverse field, directly before the Indian's nose. Even it is minute and mentioned only for strict accuracy. The exuberant luster and unbounded eye appeal more than compensate! Population: 17 in 64, 4 finer (7/07).
From The Jim O'Neal Collection of Indian Half Eagles.

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
