Lustrous and bright, with matte surfaces and a near "reverse proof" finish on the obverse. Silver coinage from 1910 with this finish type bears a resemblance to the specimen issues from 1908, with a slightly brilliant relief contrasted against frosty matte fields. While there has been some speculation that coins with this finish were struck for individual sale – as an explanation for the appearance that is between mint state and specimen – we are more inclined to believe that these coins were struck as a result of the Mint’s experimentation with different die preparation techniques during the later years of Edward VII coinage.
