1910 $10 PR65 PCGS. According to official records of the Philadelphia Mint, 204 proof eagles were coined in 1910. That quantity, however, is considered by most to be an inaccurate total. Roger Burdette, however, has actually suggested that the actual proof mintage of this date was even higher, at 250 pieces. The number of proof eagles of this date that survive today is not known with any certainty, although a reasonable estimate is 30 to 40 coins, or possibly as many as 50 pieces. This is the second, and final, year of production for the Roman finish on proof gold coins. Today, most consider this finish to be much more attractive than the dark brown matte finish. The fields of this Roman finish Gem Proof gold eagle satiny and lustrous with reflective light yellow color. Only the slightest surface marks are noted, including a couple tiny hairlines, however, the overall quality suggests to us that this example might qualify for a higher grade today. Every design element is boldly detailed. Population: 7 in 65, 1 finer (1/06).
