1909-S VDB<1C> MS66 Red PCGS. Yellow-gold color dominates, although splashes of dusky gold hues adorn the fields, most notably on the obverse above LIBERTY. Meticulously struck, as is the case with most examples of this famous and briefly minted low mintage first year subtype. Painstaking evaluation will locate the infrequent pinpoint toning fleck, but the eye appeal and quality are both formidable. Not the rarest Lincoln Cent issue in Mint State, despite its small and early production, but it is well known even among casual collectors. Since great rarities such as the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel and 1804 Dollar are out of reach for all but the fabulously wealthy, it is key dates such as the 1909-S V.D.B. that occupy the dreams of most veteran collectors.
