1909-S VDB 1C MS65 Red PCGS. Nearly every Lincoln cent collector can name the designer of the Lincoln cent, Victor David Brenner, mostly due to the placement of his initials on the back of the premier 1909 issues. Fewer know that he was a Lithuanian immigrant who anglicized his original birth name, Viktoras Barnauskas. The present example offers pleasing, even tan-gold coloration on both sides, with minimal distractions. The strike is a bit soft on Lincoln's coat and the obverse motto, and excellent luster radiates the surfaces. Under a loupe, an arcing scratch through the obverse motto, and correspondingly through the designer's initials on the lower reverse, appears to be some kind of die-ejection problem, as made.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
