<B>1909-S VDB 1C MS64 Red and Brown NGC.</B></I> While Brenner's initials at the bottom of the reverse of his design seem discreet to most numismatists today, they were too bold for some tastes nearly a century ago, and their removal created an unintended pair of varieties that includes the highly desirable 1909-S VDB. This example has walnut-brown at the upper right obverse and in streaks on the reverse, while the rest of the piece is copper-orange.
