1909-S VDB 1C MS64 Red and Brown ANACS. The Holy G
1909-S VDB 1C MS64 Red and Brown ANACS. The Holy Grail for Lincoln cent collectors, the acquisition of a 1909-S VDB cent usually marks the completion of the series. Lange, in his The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents, states that: "While a number of other issues are more rare in Mint State, this coveted coin remains the rarest regular-issue entry in terms of the total number available in all grades. For many years it has also been the rare coin most widely known outside of the numismatic community." The present near-Gem example portrays about a 50-50 mix of orange-red luster and glossy-brown patina over both sides with limited "wood-grain" streaks that are common to cents of this era. With no distracting carbon spots, the eye appeal is expectantly impressive for the grade, and is further enhanced by the crisp strike on the devices. A minute contact mark on Lincoln's cheek is mentioned for accuracy. Lot:5371
