1909/8 $20 MS63 ICG. The 1909/8 Saint-Gaudens twenty is celebrated as the only overdate in the series. In the early years of the Mint, devices (stars, letters and numbers) were individually punched into each working die. In 1909, and for many years prior, the date was an integral part of the hub. A die sinker, for whatever reason, used both 1908 No Motto and 1909 obverse hubs to prepare a working die, which required multiple impressions to complete. While not a traditional overdate (a previously used working die that is modified for use in a subsequent year), the 1909/8 adds some spice to this popular series. This honey-gold specimen is lustrous and completely worthy of the assigned grade. The only distraction that requires mention is a nick on the eagle's left wing.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
