1909-O<10C> MS66 PCGS. Although this issue is generally considered to have one of the poorest overall strikes of any Barber Dime, this example is a remarkable exception with full design definition on both sides. In fact, this may be the sharpest '09-O we have ever handled, even exceeding the remarkably well struck Hugon coin. In addition to the Hugon MS67 example, we have previously offered three MS66 examples. The obverse is substantially brilliant white with an incomplete circle of steel-blue, mint-green, and rose toning clockwise from 8 o'clock to 5 o'clock. The reverse is similar with pale champagne color over much of the surface, and also framed by similar colors. The fields outside the lower part of the wreath are prooflike, while the balance of this example has highly lustrous mint frost. This was the final year of operation at the New Orleans Mint, that facility later serving as an assay office, and most recently as a numismatic and jazz museum, although its future status in light of Hurricane Katrina is not immediately known.
