1909 Lincoln 1C. VDB PCGS EF40 BR Mint Error
Flipover double struck in the collar. A major error in Lincoln Cents such as this was rare in the 1920's and 1930's, almost unheard of before 1919, and this 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Cent is no exception. This coin was struck once, then flipped over and struck 180 degrees opposite the first strike. On the reverse, major portions of "In God We Trust", Lincoln's profile, back shoulder, and "19-9" of the original date show. This coin was first discovered and written up by Alan Herbert in 1973, and this is the first time it has been offered. There have been rumors of a Double Strike 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Cent for decades, but we do not know if this is the rumored piece, or a second coin. We believe it is probably unique as a Flipover Double Strike 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Cent, in any case. Estimated at $2,000-$2,500.
