1909 Forbes Field Opening Day Stick Pin. Sixty-two years of the ballpark's faithful service to the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball franchise began the day this scarce silver-plated pin rode the lapel of a fan on hand to watch Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke fall to Tinker, Evers and Chance of the Chicago Cubs. Terrific glove and ball imagery bears the engraved words, "June 30, 1909, Pittsburgh." The examples of this pin that have surfaced at auction in the past five years could be counted on one hand, so Dead Ball Era collectors should not miss this boat. The wait for the next will almost surely be very long.
