<B>1909-D $5 MS64 NGC.</B></I> The 1909-D Indian half eagle is the most common issue in the series, even in Uncirculated condition. For this reason, it is often the coin chosen for inclusion in type sets. However, a review of the NGC <I>Census Report</B></I> reveals that the 1909-D is comparably scarce to most other non-key-date half eagles in Gem or higher condition. NGC has graded 63 finer, with MS66 being the highest grade achieved at either NGC or PCGS (4/07). This is an especially attractive coin that shows uncommon mint frost, rather than the satiny variant usually seen.
