<B>1909 Christy Mathewson Wire Photograph by Thompson.</B></I> Though small in stature (photo measures 2.75x4"), this fine sepia image of Mathewson during pre-game warm-ups dates from a season that saw him go twenty-five and six while leading a pitching rotation featuring Rube Marquard and Hooks Wiltse. Note the black memorial band on his left sleeve--that dates the image to the latter half of the 1909 season, when the National League was mourning the suicide of their president Harry Pulliam. Photo has been trimmed from a larger size, sacrificing some of the typed paper caption on verso, though the important "Paul Thompson" stamping is unaffected.
