1909/8 $20 MS64 PCGS. Numismatists have come a long way in the past 100 or so years. Where numismatist Edgar Adams in 1910 wrote that this was created when a Mint engraver made an 8 into a 9, today we know that the variety was created as a dual-hub error. That is, a working die was hubbed once with a 1908 hub and then, after annealing, with a 1909 hub that created the overdate. Although perhaps half of the mintage is of the overdate variant, this coin is popular as the only overdate in the Saint-Gaudens series. This piece offers lush orange-gold patina over well-struck surfaces that show minimal, grade-consistent abrasions. PCGS has certified only 17 coins finer (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
