<B>1909 25C PR66 PCGS.</B></I> If one examines the proof mintages of Barber coins, it is easy to draw the conclusion that the series suffered from benign apathy, never much loved and collected in lesser numbers as the years rolled by. While the first-year proof mintage was more than 1,200 examples, by 1909 the number of recorded proofs had dwindled to a mere 650 coins. This piece offers variegated coloration in yellow, blue, and pink hues, with a sharp strike and excellent luster. A single straight scrape through the hairline requires mention. The moderate contrast is unnoticed by PCGS.
