1909 $20 MS65 PCGS. Two major varieties exist, the regular or normal date and the overdate. Neither variety is rare in circulated or low Mint State grades, but both are rare in higher Mint State levels. For example, Dave Bowers wrote: "The 1909 double eagle, 'perfect date' (not overdate), is readily available, but hardly common, in lower Mint State levels through 62. Higher grades are seldom seen, and even a nice MS-63 would be a show-stopper!" Imagine what he might say about a Gem MS65 such as this example. This piece is highly lustrous with brilliant light yellow-gold color and faint honey toning. The soft, frosty surfaces are almost entirely mark-free. It is an exceptional example destined for an exceptional collection. Population: 19 in 65, 5 finer (12/06).
From The Matt & Susan Brown Family Collection of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
