1909 $20 MS65 PCGS. Ex: Brahin. This issue is at once a rare date and also a condition rarity. The 1909 double eagles exist in Normal Date and Overdate varieties, with populations roughly equal. The original mintage for the year was 161,282 coins, and the population distribution suggests that roughly 80,000 of each variety were minted. It would be desirable to learn how many obverse dies were actually put into service during the year, especially to further research of the overdate.
Population data shows the true rarity of the Normal Date coins such as this piece. It is a lovely Gem specimen with nearly flawless surfaces. Both sides have rich and highly lustrous yellow-gold color with faint traces of iridescent toning. The strike is exceptional and nearly full. A highly appealing double eagle, this piece approaches the finest known for the date. Population: 21 in 65, 5 finer (1/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
