1909<1C> VDB PR66 Red and Brown PCGS. Although the 1909 V.D.B. product of the Philadelphia Mint is a common issue, it is rarely encountered in proof format, and the present example is one of the finest survivors from the original mintage of just 420 such coins. Every individual detail of this Premium Gem example is fully detailed. The surfaces have the satiny luster that is a characteristic of matte proof coinage. Both sides are fully lustrous with deep orange mint color accented by olive-brown and pale blue color. The surfaces are pristine, with only a tiny spot at the bottom of the reverse visible. Writing in his Proof Encyclopedia, Walter Breen suggested that proofs are known with either a satiny or matte finish. Population: 6 in 66, 0 finer (4/06).
