1909 1C PR66 Red PCGS. The first year of issue and the more frequently encountered (by far) in proof format of the two design types struck. Still, only 2,198 pieces were produced of the 1909, and few retain the full mint red surfaces seen on this coin. The obverse die for this piece was held over from the 1909 VDB matte proof coinage. It is distinguished by a patch of die lines in front of Lincoln's nose, running northwest to southeast, and a die line beneath TY that joins Lincoln's shoulder. Variegated orange-red and cherry-red coloration is distributed over each side of this nearly defect-free matte proof. Population: 38 in 66 Red, 6 finer (12/07).

Coin Engraver: Victor D.
