<B>1909 1C PR64 Red PCGS.</B></I> This issue was coined using the same matte surfaces as the 1909 V.D.B. cent, although many examples show a more satiny surface. This example, however, retains much of the matte-like character intended. The same obverse die as for the V.D.B. issue was used, and the diagnostics are present, namely a die polishing line that runs northwest to southeast in front of Lincoln, and a die scratch below TY in LIBERTY. The surfaces vary from orange-red to tannish-red, with some flyspecks. A rare and underrated early proof coin. Population: 48 in 64, 89 finer (12/05).
