1909 $10 PR60 ANACS. Like any proof Ten Dollar Ind
1909 $10 PR60 ANACS. Like any proof Ten Dollar Indian, the 1909 is both rare and desirable. A mere 74 specimens were struck in this second year of production, several among which have presumably been lost or spent. The matte surface for the 1909 and 1910 proofs is the briefly used Roman Gold finish. This semi-brilliant proofing process gives the piece a bright, satiny appearance with a soft orange-gold color (faint lilac hues are also present on this example), clearly different from the traditional matte finish. Roman Gold Tens are very rarely seen today and infrequently appear at major auctions. Seemingly conservatively graded, no hairlines or abrasions are readily evident, and the surfaces have an original appearance. Lot:8908
