1908-S $5 MS66 PCGS. The Indian half eagle design was first struck in 1908, with three Mints coining the denomination: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Of the three, San Francisco had the lowest mintage at 82,000 pieces, the third-lowest production for any issue in the series. Between the small output for the S-mint pieces and the more frequent use of gold coins on the West Coast compared to the East Coast, it is little wonder that the 1908-S Indian half eagle's population trails that of its P-mint counterpart in grades through MS66. This attractive, well struck sun-gold representative offers soft, shimmering luster with a hint of satin. The delightfully preserved surfaces show only the tiniest of flaws, with luster grazes outnumbering actual marks by a considerable margin. An amazing representative for the discerning date collector. Population: 13 in 66, 8 finer (7/07).
From The Jim O'Neal Collection of Indian Half Eagles.

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
