1908-S<25C> MS65 NGC. Writing in 1994, David Lawrence (The Complete Guide to Barber Quarters) states that the 1908-S is "one of my favorite dates. Comes with a decent strike and nice luster. Never stays in stock--trouble-free coins of any grade sell immediately." The popularity of this issue should be obvious if one notes that the original mintage is just 784,000 pieces. Lawrence also notes that this date is "undervalued in most mint state grades. Even though gems are no bargain compared with some other dates, you should not let one go." An attractive coin that represents a significant bidding opportunity for the advanced specialist, both sides are sharply struck with satin textured features. Untoned save for delicate golden-champagne rim accents. The reverse is essentially pristine. The obverse has faint mint-made roller marks near the cheekbone in addition to a couple of tiny ticks. Census: 13 in 65, 9 finer (10/05).
From The Clearfield Collection.
