1908-D $10 No Motto MS66 PCGS. The 1908-D No Motto
1908-D<$10> No Motto MS66 PCGS. The 1908-D No Motto ten dollar presents collectors with two significant obstacles. First, it is a difficult issue to locate in Mint State grades. Indeed, PCGS and NGC combined have certified around 550 Uncirculated examples, with most falling into the MS60 to MS62 range. Another 100 or so grade MS63 or MS64. Less than 20 Gem and Premium Gems are known, as are a mere three MS67 pieces. Second, this issue is considered to be one of the least attractive in the Indian Head ten dollar series. Walter Breen writes that it is weak in the centers, and often dull. Further, David Akers asserts that most specimens are flatly struck on the obverse and are lackluster.
The bidder that wins this particular coin will have largely surmounted both obstacles. It is one of the few MS66 examples known, and it exudes outstanding eye appeal. The design elements are sharply impressed, with just the hair at the Indian's ear and the eagle's left (right facing) talon revealing minor softness. Gorgeous orange-gold surfaces are laced with tinges of lime-green and radiate pleasing luster. Moreover, both sides have been impeccably preserved, revealing no blemishes worthy of mention. A singular mark concealed in the middle of the eagle's neck identifies the coin. Population: 5 in 66, 0 finer (3/06).
Indian Eagle Selections from the Dr. Steven L. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
