1908-D $10 Motto MS66 PCGS. Among the factors that resulted in somewhat weakly struck With Motto Denver Mint eagles of 1908 were the difficulties associated with adapting the new obverse, reverse, and edge dies to the mint's equipment. This is consistent with the earlier No Motto pieces. However, once adaptations were made a number of high quality tens were produced with the motto on the reverse. The No Motto tens from Denver are known for pronounced granularity over each side. This tendency was lessened with the Motto coins. This piece is typical with fine-grain surfaces and intense, satiny mint luster--one might even be tempted to call this coin frosted. Each side displays an almost even mixture of rose-gold and lilac coloration, and there are no mentionable abrasions present. The striking details are strong throughout, an indication that this piece may have been a later striking that was produced after the branch mint learned how to use the new dies and edge equipment. This is one of only four pieces that have been so graded by PCGS with an equal number certified by NGC, and seven coins are finer (10/06).
From The Kutasi Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
