1908 $5 MS66 PCGS. First year of the new Pratt design and widely saved, presumably because of the novelty of the design as well as the radical departure from the long-lived Coronet type. The reduced relief used by Pratt on the quarter eagle and half eagle coins that began production in 1908, made the field the highpoint of the coin. As a result, the rim that formerly protected the interior designs of the coronet coinage were no longer present and the fields were susceptible to abrading from even the slightest contact. Thus, the difficulty in locating this design in Gem and better condition. This particular coin shows no obvious marks on either side and sharp striking definition. The surfaces are bright and lustrous with a lovely mixture of rose-gold and lilac color on each side. Population: 16 in 66, 1 finer (11/06).
From The Kutasi Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
